I’m about to enter my senior year of college, and I’m so tired of being broke. I work two jobs and go to school full time, but between all my living and school expenses, I can barely afford to go out with my friends once a month. I’m starting to consider selling my eggs, and I want to get advice on how to do this. I’m smart, work out and eat healthy. Would this make a difference in how much I can get for my eggs? Is there an Ebay for eggs where people can bid on them? If I post my picture would that help? I’ve heard that the process of harvesting your eggs is pretty painful and time consuming, so I want to make sure I’m able to get as much money as possible to go through this process.
Egg harvesting can be a fairly lucrative venture but it is not a decision that should be made lightly. In determining whether this is the right decision for you, I advise that you consider the following.
You must work with a clinic and complete an extensive application process. If you are between the ages of 21-34 you may apply and a profile will be created for you. You will be required to go through interviews and medical and psychological tests. You need to be comfortable with self-administered hormonal injections during the egg harvesting process. You must be a non-smoker and cannot use recreational drugs. After the application process is completed you are matched with a recipient.
After being matched with a recipient the physical process lasts 3-4 weeks. During that time you will be required to undergo self-administered hormonal injections so that the ovaries will produce multiple eggs. You will have frequent clinic visits (10-12). The egg retrieval process is a relatively simple procedure but does require sedation. The possible side effects of egg donation include bloating, weight gain, pelvic discomfort and moodiness.
The compensation for egg donors is approximately $8,000 per completed donation cycle. Most clinics have a limit on the amount of times you may donate (typically 6 times.)
